Your Form I-20, issued by BYU, is a certificate of eligibility issued initially for your visa application as an F-1 student or to change your status. It functions as your record of F-1 status throughout your stay in the United States. Your current I-20 should always reflect your program and level of study you are presently pursuing, including your biographical data, information about your dependents, school and program information, financial resources, curricular practical training, recommendations for post-completion practical training and notations by a DHS official. Page 2 contains "Instructions to Students" which should be followed to maintain your status. Page 3 contains lines for an endorsement by a Designated School Official (DSO) affirming that the information on the front of your I-20 is correct for the purpose of re-entering the United States. There are spaces for information about your dependents, and others for employment authorization , curricular practical training, recommendations for post-completion practical training, or notations by a DHS official. You should keep all of your original I-20s even when a new I-20 has been issued to reflect updated information or transfer of schools.
