The United States Department of Homeland Security includes three bureaus that perform functions formerly carried out by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS): the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) which includes the officers who handle airport inspections; Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) which is responsible for SEVIS; and United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) which adjudicates applications for such benefits as optional practical training.
